Our Mission

Were on a mission to make it easier for pets, and their people, to live their best life.

What makes us different

We’re on a mission to make it easier, and more fun, for pets and their people to live their best lives. We only bring the best of the best on board. We hire dog-loving people with professional pet care experience who demonstrate trustworthiness, reliability, strong judgement, and – you guessed it – LOVE. PETS. Through our five-step hiring process, each candidate must successfully pass 3 interviews, 2 background checks, and 10 hours of classroom and field training. Every Skipper must embody each of our 6 core values:

Rooted in Quality

Care deeply. Take pride in your work.

Create adventure from the inside out

Spot new colors in all places. Surprise and delight.

Ride the scooter in
the rain

Be scrappy. Be resourceful. Do whatever it takes.

Head to Weather

Be deliberate. Embark without fear. Course correct often.

Pioneer, Together

Empower from within. Blaze the trail for others to follow.

Integrity above all

Be a steward of the home and the family. Make yourself worthy of the trust you seek.

Meggie Williams
Founder & CEO

Neighborhood: Wilmore

An animal lover all her life, Meggie began rescuing injured animals when she was a young girl. After graduating from UNC, she moved to NYC to join the corporate world but enjoyed watching her neighbors’ pets more, so she started a Manhattan-based dog walking business. After getting married and spending a year back-packing around the world with her husband, Meggie moved to Charlotte and started Skipper to help make your life easier knowing your pet is in great hands!

Megan Bailey
Head of Operations

Neighborhood: Steele Creek

Megan grew up in Charleston, SC and moved to Charlotte 12 years ago to start her career in public accounting. After realizing she liked people more than numbers, she transitioned into a role focused on recruiting and HR and has spent the last 10 years helping companies link people strategies to business strategies. In their free time, Megan and her husband love cuddling with their dogs, Maggie & Brinkley, traveling and all things Harry Potter.

Niki Chimberg
Head of Product

Neighborhood: Optimist Park

Niki was born and raised in the Boston area and ventured down to Charlotte after graduating from Cornell University. She works in marketing and web design, and Skipper is her third Charlotte startup. Niki has always loved dogs and she adopted Alfie (a fluffy mutt) shortly after moving to Charlotte. In her free time, Niki enjoys building and refurbishing furniture, traveling, hiking with Alfie, and rooting for Boston sports teams.

Luke Griffith
Head of Engineering

Neighborhood: Atlanta

Luke started his career in the restaurant world managing a pair of Chick-fil-A restaurants. He broke sales and customer satisfaction records there before changing career paths to pursue programming full-time for a leading marketing company. He has always been a dog lover and is passionate about helping bring Skipper to the rest of the Southeast and beyond. In their free time, Luke and his wife love exploring Charlotte with their dog, Darby.

Chris Day
Senior Finance Manager

Neighborhood: Waxhaw

Chris grew up in the suburbs of NYC and joined the US Army as an Infantry Officer after graduating from Yale with a Political Science degree. He went on to earn his MBA at Columbia Business School, and began his career at a small middle-market private equity firm in NYC. He then spent time working as a consultant, and in 2019 he, his wife, and 5 kiddos, and golden retriever moved to the Carolinas, which they're all now happy to call home!

Mel Shields
Senior Product Designer

Neighborhood: First Ward

Mel started as a UI/UX designer at Skookum and moved her way up to leading the team. After 6 years, Mel decided to leave Skookum for a Charlotte startup Passport, where she collaborated with product and development to define their customer facing permit and enforcement portal, update flows in their existing Enforcement app. In her free time, she does illustrations, motion and branding projects for friends1

TJ Bennett
JavaScript Developer

Neighborhood: TBD?

TJ joined the military in 2013 and got out in late 2016. After completing a development bootcamp, he started developing client websites at a marketing company in Plano, TX. The same company began a side business and asked him to help develop an application, so he did! Now that his work in Texas is finished, he is super excited to be part of the Skipper team!

Nicole Merchant
Talent Development Manager

Neighborhood: South End

Nicole grew up in Seattle and moved to Charlotte seven years ago with her fellow Seattleite, Cupid. She is studying biology in hopes of pursuing a career in animal rescue!
